Junior Astronomers Weekly Camp Themes

Journey Through The Solar System I and II

Week 2: June 23 - 27

Week 3: June 30 - July 4*

This is a half day program meeting from 10am - 2pm


Blast off into space and explore the wonders of our Solar System! This exciting program is designed to rediscover the unique qualities of our planetary neighborhood, from the blazing Sun to the distant reaches of the icy outer planets. Throughout this hands-on adventure, campers will learn about the fascinating celestial bodies that make up our Solar System, including planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and other fascinating phenomena.


Through interactive activities, they will explore each planet’s characteristics—such as the red deserts of Mars, the rings of Saturn, and the swirling storms of Jupiter—while discovering how scientists were able to study and observe these distant worlds. Campers will gain a deeper understanding of the forces that shape our cosmic neighborhood while sparking their imagination and curiosity about space. Each session will have unique activities determined by our Environmental Educators.

Geology of Space I and II

Week 5: July 14 - 18

Week 6: July 21 - 25

This is a half day program meeting from 10am - 2pm


Join us for a thrilling week of investigation into the geology of space! Discover the fascinating rock formations, craters, and landscapes of otherworldly bodies, from the Moon to distant planets and asteroids. Through hands-on activities, games, and interactive lessons lead by our instructors, your camper will learn about the processes that shape celestial bodies, including volcanic activity, meteorite impacts, and planetary formation. Whether you're a budding geologist or a space enthusiast, this program offers a unique opportunity to uncover the secrets of geology that shape our universe!

Astronomical Inventions

Week 7: July 28 - August 1

This is a half day program meeting from 10am - 2pm


In this program we are exploring the groundbreaking inventions that have shaped our understanding of the cosmos! From the first telescopes to modern space exploration technology, you'll dive into the history, science, and innovations that have expanded our view of the universe. Through hands-on activities, instructor-led discussions, and tours of Loines Observatory and the Mitchell House, your campers will discover how inventions like the Hubble Space Telescope, radio astronomy, and spacecraft have revolutionized our ability to explore and comprehend space!

Art In The Universe

Week 9: August 11 - 15**

This is a half day program meeting from 10am - 2pm

Embark on a captivating journey through the intersection of art and the cosmos in our week-long educational program! Throughout history artists have drawn inspiration from the universe, from celestial maps to modern space imagery. Through engaging artistic workshops, thought-provoking discussions, and interactive activities, you'll discover how space, stars, and planets have influenced visual art and digital media. Join us on our journey of understanding the creative ways artists dissect the universe and create your own cosmic masterpieces! This is the perfect program for anyone passionate about art and the wonders of astronomy.

Exciting, hands-on activities will help them learn about the Earth and our moon, giant planets like Saturn and Jupiter, and the Milky Way galaxy that we live in!

Camper Health Records:
 

Once enrolled in Discovery Camp your registered email will receive an invitation from our electronic health records portal - Camp Doc. To complete this profile, you will need to provide the following information:

 

  • Phone number for your child’s doctor 
  • Health insurance details 
  • Emergency contacts and phone numbers 
  • Names and contact info for people on your child’s pick up list 
  • Medication details if applicable
  • Physical and immunization records
     

Medical and medication forms are REQUIRED. Camper's profiles must be completed at least 2 weeks before your camper's registered session. Please Note: No child will be allowed to participate in our programs without our administration receiving ALL of the completed registration and medical information.  MMA reserves the right to cancel – without refund – any camper’s spot if the information is not received two weeks before the session’s start date. 

 

Camp Session Details:


  • Session Details will be shared the Wednesday before your camper's session begins, you will also receive a detailed email that includes drop off and pick up details, an agenda for the week with locations, activities and what to bring. Since our instructors plan their lessons the week prior to the session it is not possible to send this information sooner.
