Amazing Adaptations I and II

Week 1: June  16 - 20**

Week 5: July 14 - 18

This is a full day program meeting from 8:50am-3pm


Why do turtles have shells? Why are bats nocturnal? Explore these fascinating questions and more! This week, we dive into the adaptations that help plants and animals survive in their environments. From the obvious to the not-so-obvious, your child will learn about the unique traits that help creatures thrive.


Through hands-on investigations, we will use collection nets to study plants and animals up close, preserve leaves and flowers with plant presses, and take a tour of the Maria Mitchell Natural Science Museum to see how Nantucket’s native species have adapted to island life. We will also put your knowledge to the test by playing games, engineering designs, and solving mysteries. Each session will feature a new theme, guided by our Environmental Educators, making every day a fresh adventure!


Cost per Participant: $800

Camp will not be held on Thursday, June 19th and price will be prorated

Exploring Art in Ecosystems I, II, and III

Week 2: June 23 - 27

Week 6: July 21 - 25

Come and join us for an exciting week of exploration, creativity, and outdoor adventure at the Maria Mitchell Summer Discovery Camp! This week, we will investigate Nantucket's diverse ecosystems and the fascinating interdependence of plants and animals, all through the lens of nature-inspired art projects.


Our daily explorations, investigations, and observations will be woven into creative art activities such as painting, sculpture, collage, drawing, and more. By combining scientific discovery with artistic expression, your child will develop a deeper connection to the natural world while fostering their creativity. Each session will feature a unique theme, guided by our Environmental Educators, ensuring that every day brings new inspiration and fun!

Underwater Explorations I, II, and III

Week 3: June 30 - July 4*

Week 7: July 28 - August 1

Week 10: August 18 - 22**

This is a full day program meeting from 8:50am-3pm


There is no better way to experience Nantucket than underwater! This beautiful island, 30 miles out to sea, is known for its stunning harbor, beaches, and vibrant aquatic ecosystems.  Join us for an unforgettable adventure as our Environmental Educators guide you through exploring these coastal and aquatic systems, and the incredible animals that call them home.


This week, you’ll also visit the Maria Mitchell Association’s Aquarium to learn more about local marine life. For those ready to dive in, you’ll have the opportunity to create lasting memories on a snorkeling trip to explore the waters firsthand. Please note: Participants must be able to demonstrate strong swimming skills to join the snorkeling activities. Don’t miss out on this unique, water-filled adventure!


Please note: Swimming, snorkeling and other water immersion activities in this session are contingent upon safe environmental conditions.

Trash to Treasure I and II

Week 4: July 7 - 11

Week 8: August 4 - 8

This is a full day program meeting from 8:50am-3pm


Come on an up-cycling adventure with the MMA and learn how to transform our trash into useful and creative objects! We’ll explore a variety of the island's diverse habitats and learn about the important resources they provide for all living things. Through games and art projects, we will discover ways to protect these important habitats, reduce our waste, leave no trace, and repurpose old clothes, household materials, and found objects into cool creations. Each session will have unique activities determined by our Environmental Educators. 

 

Cost per Participant: $800

Island Explorers

Week 11: August 25- 29*

This is a four day, half-day program meeting from 8:50am-3pm


Join us to explore coastal and upland habitats in search of critters, play games, listen to stories, make crafts, and so much more!


Cost per Participant: $625

Camper Health Records:
 

Once enrolled in Discovery Camp, your registered email will receive an invitation from our electronic health records portal - Camp Doc. To complete this profile, you will need to provide the following information:

 

  • Phone number for your child’s doctor 
  • Health insurance details 
  • Emergency contacts and phone numbers 
  • Names and contact info for people on your child’s pick up list 
  • Medication details if applicable
  • Physical and immunization records
     

Medical and medication forms are REQUIRED. Camper's profiles must be completed at least 2 weeks before your camper's registered session. Please Note: No child will be allowed to participate in our programs without our administration receiving ALL of the completed registration and medical information.  MMA reserves the right to cancel – without refund – any camper’s spot if the information is not received two weeks before the session’s start date. 

 

Camp Session Details:


  • Session Details will be shared the Wednesday before your camper's session begins, you will also receive a detailed email that includes drop off and pick up details, an agenda for the week with locations, activities and what to bring. Since our instructors plan their lessons the week prior to the session it is not possible to send this information sooner.
