Natural Science Manager

Elisa has been in love with nature and her natural surroundings for as long as she can remember. Growing up on the Space Coast of Florida, she was just as curious about the stars as she was the ocean. Her favorite place to explore was the Indian River Lagoon, home to one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in North America, which was right in her backyard. From a young age, she remembers seeing manatee and dolphins swimming in the lagoon and being completely captivated. It still remains one of her most favorite places in the world.

Elisa earned her bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus in aquaculture and marine sciences from Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida. She has worked in a variety of informal education organizations that include Walt Disney World, DolphinQuest Hawai’i, Brevard Zoo and Florida Oceanographic. She has also been an animal caretaker for a variety of terrestrial animals such as tarantulas, snakes, lizards, tortoises, birds, and small mammals as well as marine animals including marine invertebrates, game fish, sting rays, sharks, and sea turtles.

Elisa enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Mike, and their spunky Boston terrier, Stevie, at the beach, hiking trails or anywhere in the open air. She can also be seen frequenting the library as she is an avid and voracious reader.
